Reverend Szabo began his ministry at Union Presbyterian Church on July 7, 2013. His call at Union began as a six month temporary pastorate to provide pulpit supply, but the terms of his contract were then extended and Scott was ordained as the designated pastor on January 5, 2014.
Scott was born in Phoenixville, PA, and raised in Spring City, PA, where his parents still reside. He was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church and raised at Centennial Lutheran Church. There he served as a Sunday school teacher and later as the director of Christian Education as well as the youth minister from 1999-2007. During this time, Scott was also employed as campus minister with the Coalition for Christian Outreach at Ursinus College. Upon leaving his position at Centennial Lutheran, he joined the First Presbyterian of Phoenixville, having been attracted to the congregation by an adult Sunday school class on the life and theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Scott attended Montgomery County Community College and later graduated from Temple University where he majored in Political Science and Sociology. He attended Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA, earning his Masters of Divinity Degree in 2012. He was trained as a spiritual director at the Center for Spiritual Formation in Carlisle, PA, earning a certificate in 2015. Scott served the wider church as an assistant stated clerk of Donegal Presbytery, as well as a member of the Presbytery's Leader Team. He was also active in missions and ministries across the globe, visiting the Republic of the Congo during the summer of 2010 to teach in local churches and working as an English instructor at Saint Paul's Union Church in Antalya, Turkey, in 2012.
Scott met his wife Mikhal while he was in graduate school in Philadelphia in 2008. While Scott attended seminary, they carried on a trans-continental dating relationship while she served with HOPE International in Africa. They were married in 2011 and their son, Augustine, was born on June 29, 2014. It is a joy for the congregation watching Augustine grow and scamper to the front of the church for youth sermons. They recently celebrated the birth of their daughter Clara, born on May 17, 2016. Mikhal is also very talented and on occasion plays the guitar and sings at church events.
